why I chose to study Japanese

I show keen interest in Japanese calligraphy and painting and would like to understand the artworks more deeply. Learning Japanese writing system would allow me to read the characters written on calligraphy and painting and help me generate a more comprehensive understanding of art and culture in Japan.
After the first four weeks of Japanese class, I found writing Hiragana most challenging, especially the additional sounds. Another thing that I found challenging is using appropriate particles.

  1. Generating a more comprehensive understanding of art and culture in Japan is also one of my motivations of learning Japanese. I hope we can share our thoughts about Japanese culture some day!

  3. Hi Wanshi, thanks for sharing us your Japanese learning experience! As you may have already known, we both are fascinated about East Asian culture and arts, and Japanese is indeed a useful tool to help investigate further in the field. I like how you have been honest and self-reflective towards your Japanese learning experience of the first few weeks. I am also encouraged by your clear goal and keen interest in the language. Hope we can both strive to achieve greater success in learning Japanese as well as the field of East Asian arts. がんばってください!
